Education: The equivalent of a Bachelor’s in Business Administration with concentrations in Management, Economics and Finance.
Residence: Shinra Mansion.
Pets: Dark Nation. Large black hound with glowing yellow eyes, whose head almost reaches Rufus’ hip when standing. Twin tentacles extend from his forehead, and he is trained to attack on command.
Appearance: Blond hair, short at the back, gelled back, but with unruly bangs to the sides of his face that extend down to the cheekbone. (i.e. AC hair.) Sharp blue eyes. Fair skin. Well-defined features with no obvious scars / birth marks.
Of average build, erring on the slender side, with some musculature in the shoulders and the upper arms that is typically invisible under the loose jackets. Height: 5’8”
Dresses predominantly in white suits with black collared shirts or turtlenecks. (i.e. AC outfit.)
Personality:
To the public, Rufus is an intense, driven young President. As expected from someone trained to act for the cameras from a young age, his movements and speech are poised and precise. His demeanour speaks of deep-rooted confidence despite his age, and while adaptable and open to new ideas, he has very little tolerance for nonsense. He is generally unemotional, preferring negotiation to violence, prizing rationality over all else, level-headed and difficult to provoke.
Those who know him better know that he has a temper, just one that burns ice-cold rather than red-hot. However, he also has a sense of dry humour, which degenerates into outright sarcasm on bad days and can generally be used as a warning indicator as to his mood level. Otherwise, he maintains a formal distance with most, using cool disinterest as a barrier to keep the world at bay. This occasionally comes off as arrogance, since he does not bother to hide either his high levels of education or intellect, nor does he make any special effort to be likeable, unless there are professional interests at stake. There are those who say that his main motivation is to outdo his father, and build a legacy of his own, but no one is close enough to him to know for certain.
As an individual, he is not given trusting people easily. Flattery is likely to be seen as an attempt to get something from him. Familiarity is frowned upon. Severe slights to pride are likely to end on a bullet from a Turk’s gun, although that is, generally, a measure of last resort. He is the President and demands the respect (or at least, the outward appearance of respect) that that entails.
And yes, the ends do justify the means.
(Note: Unlike AC-canon!Rufus, this one has no sense of owing a debt to the world. This one has different Issues, but that’s up to people to find out :D)
History:
Born the only son of the powerful Shinra family, he took over the reigns of the company at the unusually young age of 23 when his father died under mysterious circumstances. Little is known about him, as he was out of Midgar for years at a time on Company business. His goals for Midgar appear to be economic growth, and in some of the few press releases he has released during his Presidency, a narrowing of the income gap is stated as one of the foremost concerns. On the other hand, internal observers have noted that his emphasis on military strength of the city, as well as increased funding to the SOLDIER and SEED departments.
Other:
Rufus is not an imaginative person, which extends to his roleplaying ability, or lack thereof. His character is largely an extension of himself. He has little interest in using HDN for fun, but recognises its importance in the social arena of Crystal Midgar (as well as other, potential uses), and therefore takes what time he can to keep tabs on the network and developments on it. He does, however, appreciate the anonymity that comes of it, which he believes can be capitalised on to interact with people without the encumbrances of rank and title to get in the way.
